REM do Moon River

Theres such a lot of world to see

We♥Music has posted an extensive collection of Moon River covers

I thought I'd add to it with this REM cover, which I found was on the extended version of their 2nd album, Reckoning. I'm not sure where it originally came from though.

There's a fairly extensive bit of trivia on Moon River over on Wikipedia, including a long list cover artists including Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Perry Como, Louis Armstrong, Paul Anka, Sarah Vaughan, Sarah Brightman, Billy Eckstine, Liz Callaway, Westlife, The Afghan Whigs, Morrissey, R.E.M., Judy Garland, Patsy Ann Noble, Victoria Williams, Barbra Streisand, Bradley Joseph, The Innocence Mission, Ania Dąbrowska, James Last and Andrea Ross.

Im crossing you in style someday

I was so sure that I also had a rendition of Moon River by Tiny Tim, which I can only imagine would be great (I'm so sure I've heard it before, but I'll be damned if I can find it in my music collection).

Given that I have mentioned Tiny Tim now, I feel that I should probably put up one of his tracks. True Love, with Miss Sue, his lovely wife, is a perfect example of the oddness of Tiny Tim. I first came across him on an "outsider music" compilation called Songs in the Key of Z and have since found a full album of his which, to be honest, is pretty tough going to listen to the whole way through.

  • thanks alex, i just added your comment to the entry

I think this was a B-side to something. My sister was a big REM fan and had everything they put out, of course I think she threw all her records out a few years ago when they moved.

yep, it was originally a b-side, but when EMI reissued the Reckoning album (originally on IRS records), they added five extra songs … which one of them being Moon River.
